We might not love Zooey Deschanel's 2012 Golden Globes dress, but we love, love, love the manicure she rocked at the show.
"I am wearing a gown but my nails are wearing tuxedos!!!" she tweeted, along with a close-up photo of the cute look.
The cute take on nail art first showed up during Fall 2011 Fashion Week. Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais teamed with CND Nails to create a moon tuxedo manicure.
How to create a Zooey Deschanel tuxedo manicure
Want to try this look at home? It's actually really simple.
Paint one to two coats of white nail polish on your nails. We like Zoya in White, but you can use whichever white polish fits your fancy.
Carefully add a thin strip of black polish to the tips of your nails, either using tape or a French manicure kit.
"The simplest way to assure perfect smile lines is to divide the nail in half and then paint from side to middle," celebrity manicurist Elle Gerstein told Stylelist of creating the perfect French manicure. "This allows a perfect line...If you can't paint those perfect lines, Sally Beauty sells great guides for French manicures. Use them to create the lines, but super important: Wait until polish is set before removing!"
Add the bow tie and buttons to each nail using a black nail polish pen. This is where you can get creative. Deschanel's tuxedo manicure includes buttons of varying sizes, along with a simple bowtie.
Take a little time to practice and add the dots to your nails. Better yet: Get a friend to help for red carpet-worthy nails!
